Word of Mouth was officially established on 24 November 2023.

The goals for Word of Mouth are to:

• promote the work of South African artists in ways that readers/viewers find fun and accessible.
• notify people interested in live music about events and venues around Cape Town.
• shed light on the people and organisations that make it possible for us consumers to support the industry.
• provide access to existing resources, particularly around the historical context of South African jazz and how that influences the musical landscape of today.

My name is Rèné du Toit and I am a DJ, radio presenter, accountant, and music weirdo from Cape Town, South Africa.

I have been DJing and hosting radio shows since 2018 and became a regular consumer of live music in Cape Town in 2019. 

For me, it's the best way of experiencing music - particularly jazz. Recordings are great, but there's nothing like hearing both standards and originals played in ways that are completely new and once-off.

Musicians create moments in time that you are a part of and that, while fleeting, can stay with you for the rest of your life.
